Social Justice Fund launches fifth annual Belong Brooklyn campaign, uplifting youth mentorship organizations
The Social Justice Fund will grant $25,000 each to four Brooklyn-based organizations focused on youth mentorship
Brooklyn, NY – Aug. 6, 2026 – The Social Justice Fund, founded by Clara Wu Tsai,today launched its fifth iteration of Belong Brooklyn, an annual awareness campaign promoting a culture of belonging across the borough. This year’s campaign will be supporting four community organizations focused on youth mentorship in Brooklyn.
“Every young person deserves to have the tools, opportunities, and support they need to reach their full potential,” said Gregg Bishop, Executive Director of The Social Justice Fund. “Through Belong Brooklyn, we are honored to recognize four organizations that are investing in the next generation of Brooklyn leaders. Their work reminds us that when young people have someone who believes in them and helps them feel they truly belong, entire communities can thrive.”
As a part of Belong Brooklyn, the Social Justice Fund will grant $25,000 each to four Brooklyn-based organizations, recognizing their efforts in providing structured mentoring relationships, leadership exposure, development opportunities, college and career pathways, and social-emotional support. They include:
Pratt Institute – Pratt Young Scholars: Pratt Young Scholars is a three-year scholarship and mentorship program providing instruction in art and design as well as college preparation to motivated high school students.
PureLegacee: PureLegacee has the mission to create safe spaces for girls and gender-expansive youth impacted by incarceration, foster care, and systemic trauma by providing restorative services and programs that equip them with the tools to heal and thrive.
Brooklyn Youth Sports Club: Brooklyn Youth Sports Club’s mission is to provide educational, athletic, and developmental experiences that prepare youth for long-term success.
New Leaders Hoops: New Leaders Hoops is a non-profit youth basketball organization based in Red Hook that focuses on empowering children ages 8 to 15 in underserved communities by using basketball as a vehicle to connect youth to educational, financial, and leadership opportunities.
In addition to receiving the grants and being honored at the Aug. 5 New York Liberty game, the four organizations will participate in and be recognized during Angela Yee Day at the Ticketmaster Plaza at Barclays Center on Aug. 23.
The Social Justice Fund’s Belong Brooklyn campaign was created in 2022 to encourage a sense of belonging among people in our community and around the world. Past campaigns have given grant money to organizations focused on community violence intervention and working with underserved communities, nonprofits focused on Black maternal health, as well as workforce readiness and re-entry employment servicesin Brooklyn. The initiative is anchored by famed artist Tavares Strachan’s “You Belong Here/We Belong Here” art installation, which is currently on display outside the Barclays Center.
